Error when starting UE4 Editor [DX11 feature level 10.0 is required to run the engine.]

Hi all,

I just bought a new laptop (Asus G750JS) and I am having trouble getting UE4 to start. When I try to start it using the NVIDIA GeForce GTX870M I get the error “DX11 feature level 10.0 is required to run the engine”. However if I try to start it up using the integrated Intel graphics card it runs just fine, albeit on a low framerate.

Things I have tried:

  • I have updated the NVIDIA drivers
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the NVIDIA drivers
  • Installed an older version of the NVIDIA drivers
  • Got the UE4 4.4.3 source code and compiled it manually
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled directx_Jun2010_redist

I am at a loss what to try next, do you have any suggestions?

PS. I attached my dxdiag.txt

So, after a lot of testing it turns out to be my Oculus Rift DK2 being connect with HDMI whilst not setup in the Windows resolution screen. After setting up the Rift in mirrored landscape desktop extended mode, UE4 editor started up like normal while using the NVIDIA card.

I had the same problem.
I updated my display driver and it worked.
hope it works for you as well

I have the same issue trying to run it in VirtualBox win10 guest.
