How is the free academic licence deployed to university machines?

In previous answers it is stated that one licence is provided for all institution machines. How would this licence be deployed? i.e. does it need a licence server, does it need to be activated on each individual machine or can we package an activated version for deployment to machines?

Hi LondonmetSoftware,

You simply request an individual key for each on campus pc and each student, then download the engine on the campus pcs for each individual license.

This differs from the answer to another question:

When you sign up for your school’s license atwww.unrealengine.com/education you will get 1 license that covers UE4 installation on all the school’s computers.

I understood this to mean we would get one key that could be used on every machine. If we need a separate key for every machine that will take much longer to install.

Hello,

The answer provided by was for how to your students their own access codes for their personal accounts. Sorry for any confusion.

Please take a look at our Academic Installation page provided on the Unreal Engine wiki:

I hope this helps to answer your questions. Please let us know if you require anything else.

Thanks for this. Will I need to request a separate code for the site installation or can one of the student codes be used?

Hi LondonmetSoftware,

You absolutely can. The codes are all identical and the same amount of subscription time. You will need to request another “batch” of codes with new students each semester, so just add in an extra for the school. Let me know if you have any questions.
