[ue 4.5-pre] Editor crashes on startup

Hey there, I downloaded UE 4.5.0 from GitHub and compiled it succesfully following all the instructions provided on the same page (Direct X, dependables etc.). When I start it by double clicking the “UE4 Editor” in the Win64 file in Binaries, it shows four-five crash reports resulting from an error in ShaderCompilerWorker and a separate crash report (also originating from ShaderCompilerWorker).

Screenshots are attached. I know other people managed to get it running without any problems. Maybe it’s specific to my system. I’ll try a few things on this end in the meantime, but I’d appreciate it if anyone can provide me with some guidance.

Thanks!

The solutions stated on these pages didn’t work for me:

Its not only you. I am experiencing the same problem. Everything compiles fine but during launch the UE4-ShaderCompileWorker crashes. I’ve re downloaded everything, recompiled and ran into the same problem again. I always get 5 window popups with the crash report shown above. I have also tried the linked solution with no success.

This is not really a fix, but I did pull the new master branch tonight for 4.5 and rebuilt. It was able to launch without the ShaderCompilerWorker exception and I was able to get my old project to recompile. So far it seems stable.

On GitHub where you select which branch you want, I selected master and under the “Getting up and running” section they have updated links for the source and required dependencies. I haven’t tried forking the master to see if it works.

Do you use release build or latest github 4.5 branch?

Thanks. It’s so strange, the same files compile just fine on my Mac. I’ll try downloading again.

Hey alperenakyuz,

We’ve been keeping an eye on this issue. Did pulling the new master branch fix the problem for you?

Hi guys,

I also received another very similar error upon attempting to build the latest GitHub source code.

Hope that Epic can update this in the new build due for release here:
