Static Mesh Import/Calculate Normals

When importing a static mesh in the new Beta5 - I’m getting some strange artifacts on my mesh. It appears that when importing the mesh, the default in Beta4 was to “Calculate Normals” whilst the default in Beta5 is to “Import Normals”. I could not find anything in the changelog documenting this (admittedly minor) change.

The mesh looked fine in UDK & Beta4.

Is there a way to change the default option on my end for importing?

Hi Chris,

This default setting was a deliberate change since it was determined that importing normals usually ends with better results. The intended functionality is that once you specify a setting while importing, the editor remembers and uses this on your next import. However, you have helped us determine that this is not currently happening, and I have entered a report for this bug.

For now, if you wish to choose Calculate Normals, you will have to set this per import. Apologies for any inconvenience.
