Hi,
there is a serious bug in the copy and paste function in the current version of the Unreal Engine. When I select in the Blueprint view a Blueprint component and paste this (via the kexboard) in the same Blueprint the program crashes.
This is very annoying. Please fix this bug in the next update. I lost much of my work because of this bug.
When I create a blueprint based on an Actor and add a box component to it I am able to Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V to make a copy without any problems. What class is the blueprint you’re using based on and why type of component are you using to copy? Any information you can provide will help determine the cause of the crash and help fix it.
No worries. I do have a another question for you however. Are you working on a laptop or a PC? It would also help if you could attach a file including your DXDiag.
Hi ,
sorry for my delayed response. I had too much to do in the meantime. I have checked the copy and paste problems once more and realized that every (!) copy and paste action in the material editor crashes the program. Very bad. I am working on with Windows 8.1 x64.What could be responsible for this problem?
We are investigating what is causing this crash. If you could, please attach your logs from the crash as well as your DXDiag to provide us with additional information that might help determine what’s happening. This link will direct you to where the project’s log files are saved inside your project folder. A new, community-hosted Unreal Engine Wiki - Announcements - Epic Developer Community Forums
When uploading the files you may need to add “.txt” to the end for AnswerHub to accept them.
Hi ,
thank you for your answer. I guess there is a problem with the crash report. The program quits without any crash message when I do a copy and paste action.
The logs should be created even if no message is displayed when the crash occurs. Make sure to empty out the Saved->Logs folder from your project folder and then run through the process again to cause the crash. Then save a copy of the Logs folder and attach a zip file to the post. Also include your DXDiag so we can take a look at the specs you’re running.
Hi ,
I have collected the crash and the log file. How can I generate the DXDiag ? Can you give me an email address where I can send this logs to? I do not want to post this here.
I missed the part of your last post asking how to generate the DXDiag. Depending on your operating system you can either open Run or search in the start menu search bar for “DXDiag.exe” and run from there.
For submitting the files, do you have a dropbox you could add the files to? Then you would just need to send me a private message on the forums with a link to the dropbox.
Hi ,
I do not know how I can send you a private message. Can you send me a link or something else? In the meantime I have another serious problem. I want to finish an ArchViz project. But it is not possible because the program crashes when I try to drag a glass material to an object. Its very strange. At the moment I cannot use any glass materials. Unreal also crashes when I try to move an object with an attached glass material. Do you know why this happens? I can attach this crash report to the Zip archive.
This crash has been submitted to our internal tracking system for further investigation. There should be a fix to this problem in a future update to the engine.
Hi ,
in the version 4.5 the problems are still fixed. (copy & paste + glass problem) But perhaps the crash logs will help you for new implementations in the future.
