Working with BSP causes frequent editor closures

Hey guys

Over past few months I’ve been working in UnrealEd on and off, and I keep experiencing this problem on multiple different build versions. When working with BSP, I’m experiencing editor closures roughly every ten minutes or so, when performing simple operations such as moving a brush or editing it. There is no crash log or even a crash, everything just closes and I have to reload editor.

I can’t figure out how to attach my log and dump, it says file types are invalid for attaching, and it’s same when zipping them up. I can provide them if you could tell me how.

Thanks

Hey ,

You should be able to attach file with your log and dump. If you are unable to attach a for any reason, you can put files online somewhere and give us link. Dropbox is a decent service for this if you don’t already have another. Thanks!

Thanks , please can you let me know if this link works?

Hi phaynes888,

Which version of editor are you currently using? Does this occur in a blank project with no additional content.

I’m using version 4.4, though it was happening in 4.3 as well. I’ll have to test whether it happens in a blank project at weekend and get back to you

I’ve been messing about in a new project this morning, working with BSP, and can’t replicate issue, however it varies how long it takes before things start crashing in my other project. I do know that when working in my project my editor starts to slow down after roughly 15 -30 mins of use, as if there is some kind of memory leak, and this has happened on every version of unreal I’ve used so far (I think I started on 4.2). Operations like moving brush faces start to take longer to complete rather than instantly updating. Maybe it’s related to crashing?

It has always been same project I’ve been working in however (migrating between build versions), but my project level doesn’t contain anything complicated, just some BSP rooms at moment and some basic lighting. There are also a few blueprint items in place.

Does this occur on same project if you start a brand new level? try opening a brand new map and messing with BSP’s. If this does slow engine down and eventually crash it may be that project is corrupt. If not, it may be individual map is corrupt.

Hi phaynes888,

We have not heard from you in quite some time. I am marking this thread as answered for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing this error, please comment with requested information. Thank you!
