[CTD 4.5.0] When trying to open static mesh editor

After having imported a .fbx file from 3DS Max when I attempt to open the static mesh editor to adjust some parameters such as collision mesh the editor will just CTD. This does not happen on all static mesh’s but roughly 90% of them. It’s making it very difficult for me to progress with my level.

If anybody knows what could be causing this and may know a temporary fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello xandan89,

I was unable to reproduce this on my end. I will require some more information to assist you further.

Quick Experiments:

  1. I would like you to try is importing a simple box into a new project and see if you can then recreate the issue.
  2. If the first experiment is successful (no crashing) then I would like for you to try importing one of the models that is known to cause a crash. I would like for this attempt to be in a clean project.
  3. If the second experiment is also successful (no crashing) I would like for you to try importing the box (that did not cause a crash) into the project that is causing all the issues.

Other needed information:

  • dxdiag
  • Logs (This can be found under “YourProjectName”\Saved\Logs)
  • Crash Report

Hi Rudy,

I followed the experiments and they did not cause any crashes, however when I imported the same mesh used in step 2 to the project that has had crashes it CTD.

How would you like me to give you the additional information you would like?

Hello xandan89,

You can attach the information I requested in your next comment by using the attach button. If you could provide the asset that you used to cause the crash along with a stripped down version of your project (has the minimum amount of assets needed to cause the crash) I will try again to reproduce the issue on my end.

I would also like for you to try the following:

  • Import an asset (that causes a crash) to a clean project
  • Make needed modification (such as for-mentioned collision changes)
  • Save asset
  • Migrate that same asset to the project that crashes
  • Open project and see if this is a possible work around

Hey xandan89 ,

I’ve not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and I will try to assist you further.

Thank you.
