[Bug] Landscape Lighting Failure

Hello,

I’ve been having issues with landscape lighting in one particular level, as you can see the central segments light correctly, but anything past a certain distance just renders black.

It’s a 15x15 Quad 1x1 section fresh landscape without any materials on it. I didn’t have this issue with a previous landscape which I removed in order to rebuild from scratch.

An identical terrain set up in a new level (same project) does not show the same issue, nor do landscapes in new projects.

I think similar questions have been raised before but I didn’t find a solution that fit the error in question.

Thanks!

So after spending some time copying the level over piece by piece to try and identify any particularly problematic elements, and trying some different settings the issue has been solved.I suspect however it has something to do with the world lightmass setting since that was the last thing I modified before it began working as intended.

I have the old and new level files available if requested. I’ve not managed to test if returning the lightmass settings to the previous settings cause the issue to reappear, but I will attempt to do so tomorrow. In addition I have yet to apply any materials to the landscape, or in fact modify it at all. Doing so may cause the issue to reappear.

Hi Christopher,

I am glad you were able to find a resolution for the issue. We are not currently aware of the cause of this. If you do continue testing and are able to reproduce the issue, we would be interested in knowing your results.

Thanks

Hello,

The files are now on the dropbox under my name, including the broken, and corrected levels.

Thank you for providing the files. Interestingly, I loaded them (in Beta 6) and experienced no issues, even on the “broken” map, both before and after rebuilding lighting. It is possible your configurations got put into a weird state.

If it happens again and you recall the steps you took which put in in that state, let us know.

Cheers

Hi Christopher,

This is just a guess, but if you look in your Scene Outliner, do you have a LightmassImportanceVolume in there? If so, do the bounds of that volume match the boundaries where the problem is occurring? If so, try making that volume as large as possible.

Hello,

That came to my mind, already tried it with no luck. The size of the lightmass importance volume seems has no impact on this level, or a working level.

My current plan is to copy everything but the landscape into a new level and see if adding one then creates the same issue.
