Print String not working since on 4.5

I use print quite often to get an idea of velocities and normals for damage and basically immediate feedback. Since updating to 4.5 it’s stopped working altogether

Hello ,

I was unable to reproduce this issue on my end. I have a few questions for you that will help narrow down what could be causing the problem.

Quick questions:

  1. Are you able to reproduce this issue in a clean project?
  2. Have you noticed any inconsistencies in your blueprints? (such as wire not connected)
  3. Are any errors produced when the issue occurs?
  4. When you simulate/play your project and you leave the blueprint (with the print string) up are your wires “lighting up” as they should?
  5. Does print string work if you use it in a newly created blueprint in the same project that has the occurring issue?

Hey ,

I’ve not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and I will try to assist you further.

As you can see from the image i used breakpoints to check if is reached.

I also found what cause it, as it worked few minutes ago.

You can reproduce in this way:

  1. Launch your project.
  2. Open console
  3. Stop project (without close console).
  4. Launch project again
  5. No string at all.

Workaround:

  1. Open and close console to see print again.

Hello Azaratur,

I was unable to reproduce this issue. I have a few question for you to help narrow down this issue that you are experiencing.

Quick questions:

  1. Can you reproduce this is a clean project?
  2. What version of the engine are you using?
  3. Are you working is C++?
  4. Is this issue 100% reproducible?

Sorry i wrongly wrote the steps…
Now i have better information for you, it seem happens only with recast navmesh. So i will explain the steps.

  1. Open top down project (or any project with a navmesh)
  2. Set a string ( i did it in event tick)
  3. press play
  4. press ’ to show navmesh information (here is where i wrong…)
  5. stop project (without closing navmesh infos)
  6. relaunch project no string at all

The workaround still working, just relaunch the prject open and close navmesh infos.

This is what i mean for navmesh infos:

Hello Azaratur,

Thank you for all of the time and information you have provided in the process of identifying this issue. I have written up a report (UE-5347 ) and I have sent it to the developers for further consideration. I will provide updates with any pertinent information as it becomes available.

Make it a great day

I have exactly the same problem. The issue happens only sometimes, and apparently only since I have added a NavMesh to the level.

Hello haimat,

I went ahead and double checked on this issue for you. It appears that this issue has been resolved internally and that the solution will be available in later release of the engine. I hope that this information helps.

Make it a great day

Thanks for your reply, .
With later release do you mean the next one?

Hello haimat,

Not necessarily, there are several factors that come into play when deciding when to implement a solution. However, you will be able to check the release notes after the next release to find out for sure. I hope that this helps.

Make it a great day
