Blocky Character Shadows

Lightmap settings dont affect dynamic object shadows. If you are using 4.5, can you check Settings > Engine Scalability Settings and see where Shadows is set to?

I’m having a hard time figuring out how to increase the sharpness (or at least smoothness) of the shadows being cast by skeletal meshes. The screenshot below shows projection onto a BSP with lightmass of 8 and, as you can see, works fine with the static mesh shadow on the left but not on the skeletal mesh shadow on the right.

I’ve tried adjusting lightmap settings on both BSPs and static meshes, playing with UV channels and have checked this with several other skeletal meshes from the Mixamo sample pack but nothing seems to change the shadows a bit. What am I missing?

Hi Jacky, thanks. This was on 4.4.3. Downloading 4.5 now. I will report back shortly.

Bingo! That was it. 4.4.3 was set to medium. Thank you so much. I wasted hours trying to sort this out myself.

If it was 4.5 it might have been that setting set to medium by default, which may still be the case for 4.4.3 as the editor scales things down if your FPS goes too low for a while.
