Unreal Launcher not starting

I have been using Unreal for a few months and a few days ago the launcher stopped displaying when I clicked on it. I was still able to run the engine from project files but the launcher doesn’t open and doesn’t give any error. I tried uninstalling everything and re-installing it and now I cant even use the engine with my project files.

I am on windows 8.1 and have updated graphics drivers. I have tried everything I can think of and everything I have found on the forms but nothing is working. I have attached my DxDiag and Verbose log files. Please help!!

Hi SeanG1987,

Sorry for the issues! The attached log file is unfortunately incomplete. Could you please zip up the whole logs folder and attach that instead?

In the meantime you could also check that no instances of the UnrealEngineLauncher.exe are running in the task manager, as perhaps one is stuck in the background blocking another from launching.

Here is the zipped log files… I’m not sure any of them are complete… the only way to stop the launcher process is to end it’s task…

Any Update on this? I managed to get the Engine from a friend and can continue working with my project files but the launcher still wont show

Hey, I’m still working on it I’m afraid. So far it looks like you have some issue loading shaders, not sure whether that means they are missing for some reason (which I’d have thought your re-install would fix) or if it’s still some driver/gfx card issue. The -opengl run that you tried was more informative. Do you have any other machines that you are able to run the Launcher on?

If so, it might be interesting to see what would happen if you copied the launcher installed on your machine that its broken on, onto another machine (anywhere really) and ran the exe within it…

It works on other machines but copying it back doesn’t work on my machine

Hi SeanG1987,

It looks like you don’t have the latest version of the Launcher. You can fix this by downloading the latest .msi installer. To do this go to https://www.unrealengine.com/ and sign in > click the Download button from the Subscription tab.

Let us know if this fixes the issue or not.

Hi SeanG1987,

We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you’re still experiencing this issue, try the solution I provided above and post back here.

Thanks,
