[4.5] some InstancedStaticMesh instances fail to render in iOS

I am using blueprint to create instancedStaticMesh tiles, but some tiles are not rendering on my ipad air. It displays fine from the editor, and can be walked on in the app, but fails to render.

Howdy pchan126,

Thank you for reporting this issue. I am going to need a bit more information before I look into this issue. Would you be able to provide your DXdiag and your project log files? Also, What device OS version of your iPad air are you currently using?

Would you be able to provide a quick step by step repro of this issue so that i may be able to reproduce this issue internally?

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a great day!

Hey pchan126,

Just wanted to check in with you and see if the issue you have been running into is still occurring. If the issue is still still occurring, Could you please include the information asked for in the comment above.

Thanks and have a great day!

Sorry I’m on vacation until the end of the month - I’m running on iOS 8.02.

When I get back I can send over more info. I was developing using xcode on a Mac and I’m not sure about dxdiag or project logs.

Starting with Third Person Template - BP + Starter Content (4.5.1)
Create actor BP with Instanced Static Mesh (Shape_Plane)
Package and test on ipad air, iOS 8.1

Howdy pchan126,

I just tested out the issue and have not had any problems seeing an instanced static mesh on mobile. When you are placing the BP into the level, are you placing the plane on the same height of the floor? I was able to see a similar problem that you have been having when I place the plane on the floor level.

Thanks!

I made a new level, with just the BP (replacing Shape_plane with Shape_Cube), startpoint, BP_Sky_Sphere and Skylight and am seeing the same thing.

Hey pchan,

Would you be able to share that sample project here so that I may be able to see exactly what is occurring?

It should just be the BP and level thats been added

Howdy pchan126,

In order to use the Launcher and properly access UE4, you must have created a paid subscription account on UnrealEngine.com. Once you have this, you can download the Launcher from your account page, which once installed will then download and install the UE4Editor.

We can only offer installation & setup support for users accessing the editor from the Launcher or from our GitHub repository.

Have a good day!

I do have a paid subscription account. How do I go about sharing the full sample project?

Sorry about that. The accounts page was acting up yesterday. You should be able to zip the file up and send it over via Google Drive or send the file over to me via the forums. To send it over that way, here is a link to my personal page where you can send it to me in a private message: https://forums.unrealengine.com/member.php?4890-Sean-Gribbin

Again, sorry about the mix-up with your account information and have a great day!

Howdy pchan,

Thank you for sharing your project with me. I was able to see the same issue that you have been seeing. I have gone ahead and written up Bug UE-5414 and placed it into our bug database so that the issue may be fixed in a future release.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Hey pchan126,

Just wanted to clear up something really quick. The holes showing when deployed to a mobile device are not the desired outcome, correct? The holes should not be there and the floor should be whole.

Thanks!

Yes. In fact the holes are only In rendering. The character can’t go through the missing instances.

Hi pchan126, I’m happy to report I found the bug and have fixed it on the main branch, changelist 2364187. It will not make it for 4.6, but I’ll push it in case we do 4.6.1.
