[Question] - How to light a particle sprite with particle lights?

I’m trying to re-create the smoke-plume from the Knight Tech-Demo that was lit inside with chunks of lava as they spewed through the smoke. I’m having trouble with setting the right translucency/normal settings on the smoke material and also can’t seem to get the sprites based on the light modules on the lava chunks.

There are so many variables to getting the smoke set-up correctly that I’m getting lost. Is this feature still even possible?

The particle effect I’m referring to is shown at 2:25 in this video: Unreal Engine 4 - GT.TV Exclusive Development Walkthrough - YouTube

I am very much interested in this as well. I am afraid that since SVOGI was cut, this is no longer possible…

Hi James,

Thank you for your patience. I can confirm that in Rocket Beta 6 lighting a particle using another particle is not possible. However, we have recently implemented into our internal build the ability to use particle lights to light other particles (that do not have an emissive material). This change to rendering particles will be brought over into a future release.

Cheers!

Alexander

Man I love you guys! Can’t wait to see it, do you think it will come to Beta 7 or is it too early to say?

We like to think that everything will go perfectly, we are optimists here, but this is software we are talking about, so it is still a bit early to say.
