Should i buy it?

I have done some stuff in unity and a bit of coding but not that much, when i saw this engine it looks a lot better but i am not sure if its good for me(beginner).
I would like to use blueprints for a bit but then try some coding, is there any good tutorials for learning everything about the engine.
One last question is do you have to do modelling in a different program or does unreal engine have good enough features to make do?

Thanks!

Hey mate,

this is hard to answer. I mean, the engine doesn’t cost your soul. So trying it won’t harm you, and if it would, than i won’t recommend paying the money if you need it.

You can do many things with Blueprint and you can do many things alone. But it is important to stay small. Don’t try to make a freaking big game on your own, because you will run into months of work and maybe into problems that you can’t solve by your own.

There are also enough tutorials from Epic Games on Youtube to help you getting started with Blueprints, Materials and C++ programming. There is also a Network Section, but networking is a big thing i would recommend you to stay with a Singleplayer game for the beginning.

Your question about the modeling:

As far as i know, Unreal has no Modeling Programm Part. You would need to model your Meshs etc inside another program. You can use Blender, it is free and there are tons of tutorials on Youtube.

This all takes time. Learning to use the BP and the C++ part, also learning to model. If you are fine with the fact that you won’t make a game in a week and you are still hyped trying out the engine, i would say do it. You only need to pay once and you are able to use the Engines last update from the Month you payed as long as you want.

Thanks, I guess I will try it out and watch the tutorials.

I think I will stick to blueprints for a while though

I have zero regrets. It’s a great toolset and the devs are phenomenal. Well worth a try at the very least.
