Buy a AMD FX 8320 or Core i3 for UE4?

Cooking takes many many millions of years on my current Pentium G 3220 dual core CPU

So thinking of buying a AMD board and a FX 8320. Money is a big issue so looking for the best value for my money for rending in UE4 development.

8 core AMD sounds like a good deal to me. i5 is waaay to expensive and out of the question offcourse a FX 8320 and a mainboard would bring up the price close to a i5.

But how much more powerful would a i5 even be compared to the 8 core AMD? even though intel does more performance per core how much vs 8 threads on AMD for UE4?

Which CPU does UE4 favors?

Hey,

8320 can be overclocked and perform the same as an 8350.That said i would go for an 8350 and overclock it to 4.6ghz.You would get i7 performance with a fraction of the cost.In some multithreaded applications it even outperforms it.

Downsides are that you need a good psu and if you want to overclock don’t even thing buying a MoBo that does not have a 990fx chipset on it.Also you will need to buy an aftermarket cooler. The stock one is terrible.

hey thanks but the mainboard you pointed out is too expensive this would really defeat the purpose of all this. Best I go with a FX 6300 or buy an i3 haswell for my current intel haswell setup and sell my pentium g. Maybe I should go with a cheap mainboard for like $56 bucks and a FX 6350 and just run it stock with stock cooler right?
