    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

I just paid for a month subscription of Unreal Engine 4 having never used Unreal before. I clicked download for PC after buying, installed the MSI and I'm pleasantly greeted by this crash. Tried the above shortcut fix, crash, tried the Patcher Carlos posted, crashed.

I kinda want my $20 back....it's been 3 months, this seems like a critical issue that should be fixed by now!

This was a bug in the VS2013 math libraries causing a crash on CPUs without AVX2 features (like your AMD FX 8320) in certain environments.

http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/811093

We have applied a workaround by disabling FMA3 in this circumstance. We will remove this workaround when the problem has been resolved at Microsoft.

The fix has been submitted to our main branch and should be available in the next release. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hello Felvol,

Can you attach your CrashReportClient logs found here: C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\4.0\Engine\Programs\CrashReportClient\Saved\Logs

And attach your launcher logs as well, found here (Replace User.Name with your windows user name): C:\Users\User.Name\AppData\Local\UnrealEngineLauncher\Saved\Logs

Thanks!

avatar image Elunil Mar 20 '14 at 07:57 AM

Hi Carlos ! Yeah i meant the msi installer :/

Just to say also that unlike the guys above me i have

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.4GHz Memory: 8192MB RAM Graphic Card : Nvidia GeForce GTX 765m

So i guess my processor doesnt have AVX2 too ?

Thank you Daniel , you guys are awesome !

i'm updating windows atm, lets see if it fixes the issue ...

avatar image Elunil Mar 20 '14 at 10:16 PM

Hey Felvol, can you try one more thing?

Can you try to uninstall the visual studio 2013 redistributable? Here's what it looks like in Programs and Features:

alt text

Uninstall the x64 and x86 versions, then reinstall with the download from Microsoft which you can find here:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

We think it might be a problem with the redistributable.

Hi Felvol, thanks for the logs! Could you try doing one last thing? Open up:

"C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\Launcher\Engine\Programs\NoRedist\UnrealEngineLauncher\Config\DefaultEngine.ini"

And add the following to the very end of the file:

[Core.Log] LogHttp=Log LogOnline=Verbose

That should enable verbose logging to help us track it down. Once that's done, can you try running again and sending us the very latest log again? Thanks!

avatar image Felvol Mar 19 '14 at 06:38 PM

Here is the Zip with the [Core.Log] LogHttp=Log LogOnline=Verbose line added in :) link text

I didn't have any of those 2013 redistributables installed :o, But after installing them I get - http://i.imgur.com/f0tSSVT.png As well as - http://i.imgur.com/ZhaBC9o.png

Hey Everyone, thanks for your patience!

As Bob mentioned, we now have a possible workaround for you guys to try. Currently this fix is only in the Launcher(we're working on the fix for the Editor), but it would be useful to know that our fix actually works. Can someone who is still having this issue try the following:

  1. Edit your shortcut to add "-CPLabel=QFE" to the commandline (note that QFE has to be capitalized).

  2. Download: https://cdn.unrealengine.com/qfe/UnrealEngineLauncherQFE-FromCL2030636.zip and replace the executable in your "Unreal Engine\Launcher\Engine\Binaries\Win64" folder with the one in the zip.

  3. Run the launcher, and login, allow the downloads to complete. After you install the editor, download the following and run the QFE hotfix for the editor install: http://cdn.unrealengine.com/qfe/QFE-FromCL-2027741-Shelve-2031074.exe

Let us know if this works and we can propagate this to the Editor and get it in for the next hotfix.

Note that this is a targeted hotfix for now and as soon as we release this to the public you should remove the "-CPLabel=QFE" from your commandline. Please subscribe to this thread and we'll update it when it's time to remove it.

[Edited to include editor hotfix]

Just tried it, it's working! The launcher is starting up. I'll let you know if something that shouldn't happen, happens.. :P

avatar image Bittermandel Mar 20 '14 at 11:35 PM

Launcher is working great! Currently downloading the whole engine.

avatar image Carlos Cuello STAFF Mar 21 '14 at 04:15 AM

Just to clarify, this fix will allow the launcher to run and download all of the data for the editor and the samples, but we will have to post a new hotfix for the Editor to work correctly. We'll update this thread as soon as that editor hotfix is available, thanks again for your patience.

avatar image MERSHED TERTERS ♦♦ STAFF Mar 21 '14 at 07:12 PM

We now also have a patch available for the editor side of this problem. Please try out the following exe. We'll also be bundling this into a public fix earlier next week so you don't have to worry about these one-off fixes.

http://cdn.unrealengine.com/qfe/QFE-FromCL-2027741-Shelve-2031074.exe

avatar image Siggen Mar 21 '14 at 07:37 PM

It doesn't seem to be working, atleast not for me, gives me this error message which didn't show before.

I've tried all the usual stuff on my side without luck :( Tried re-doing all of the work-around steps and downloading everything once again. Visual C++ Redistributables checked etc..

Running on Dell Inspiron N7110

avatar image MERSHED TERTERS ♦♦ STAFF Mar 22 '14 at 05:46 PM

Is this after running both Carlos's patch and the editor patch?

avatar image Siggen Mar 22 '14 at 08:45 PM

Yes, first downloading and switching the .exe file and then patching with the file at step 3 as hinted towards in the post.

I'll post my rig in case you need some information, if the case would be that it only affects certain people (components per-say) you atleast have information from one of them. Me and my friends/collegues appreciate your time taken to fix this problem, hope it solves out soon so we can make our switch from Unity to Unreal, I'm extremely hyped about it! :P

Hey Siggen, sorry you're still having problems! One last possibility, can you try installing Windows 7 SP1?

avatar image Siggen Mar 22 '14 at 11:40 PM

Ofc! Thought I had automatic update active but I was wrong.. :P It's working, thanks a bunch! I have a question while we're at it! This is my private comp, we'll start fixing unreal on the rest of the computers. Can we use the same account on all of the computers, logged in at the same time? Or do we need to fix seperate accounts? There's probably a answer to that in the FAQ or whatnot but while I have you on the line.. :P

Thanks again for all your patience! We now have a hotfix for the editor as well that Gil Gribb put together. Please download the QFE update from here:

http://cdn.unrealengine.com/qfe/QFE-FromCL-2027741-Shelve-2031074.exe

And run the executable and click start. When that's done you should be able to also start the editor correctly.

I have Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~3.5GHz Memory: 8192MB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460

And I'm getting the exact same problem as you actually. Getting the crashreportclient has stopped working error but in addition for me a black windowed screen would pop up and immediately exit out just before that happened.

I wanted to be helpful and contribute my own logs, but when i added those 3 lines to my DefaultEngine.ini file I got a new issue. Instead of just the CrashReportClient the UnrealEngineLauncher also stops working. And the black window that was flashing in the background now sticks around until I close the program. As far as I can tell no logs generated.

I also didn't have the 2013 redistributable. (after typing this) I decided to try installing it and after doing so there was no change. I'm really excited for my shiny new ue4 subscription~, hopefully someone will figure something out before my days off are used up. X3

OH OH! I dunno if i will work for you guys but. I just realized that sense my last reformat I forgot to install the win7 sp1 update. I did so and now its working fine. If you see a 7600 next to your windows version in the dxdiag window then I think you might wanna consider trying to update.

Hope that works for you guys!

Hi Claudio, can you check to see if you have SP1 installed? We believe that has fixed this bug in the majority of cases, and you can remove the QFE label from the commandline.

avatar image Claudio Silva Mar 31 '14 at 07:33 PM

sorry SP1? I see how it is installed?

avatar image Carlos Cuello STAFF Mar 31 '14 at 07:42 PM

Apologies for the confusion, it's Windows 7 SP1. If you go to your start menu, right click on "Computer" and then hit properties, under "Windows Edition" in the main tab it should say a few lines and one of them would be "Service Pack 1" if you have it installed. Alternatively you can run dxdiag, and save out the file and post it here. You can follow the instructions here if you'd like to install it:
