Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Mac OS X - Disc Image Not Recognised

The UE4 disc version 1.0.0-2028188 currently available from the account page seems to be broken. I tried it on two different computers and both had the same issue. I tried repairing it using Disk Utility but it didn't work.

Hello everyone!

We are trying to gather as much info here as we can. For anyone seeing this problem, can you please post the following:

  • Are you having problems with just the Mac .dmg? Are you able to download the windows .msi?

  • What country or region are you coming from?

  • If you are having problems, do the S3 links in the answer work for you?

Hey folks,

Here is an alternate download link you can try:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/unreal-engine-installers/UnrealEngine-1.0.0-2028188.dmg

The .dmg file you download should be 46.7 MB. If it is not, try this download instead. This should bypass any issues you're having with incomplete downloads. Let us know if this helps!

Yep, this link works perfectly, thanks!

Quick update:

We've identified an issue with Cloudfront (our CDN) not caching the .dmg file which meant ALL requests for the .dmg are coming all the way back to the origin / source server, which is causing these problems.

This appears to be limited to just the .dmg. The Windows MSI and the actual download files seem file.

We are talking with Amazon about the issue.

I see, thanks a lot for responding to the issue, and in detail at that :D

Hey, Takanu,

What issue are you having with the file? I've downloaded the file again on my Macbook Pro and haven't had any problems with it. At what point in the download/install process do you encounter an error, and what error do you specifically get?

Best,

Ben Halliday

It's right from the .DMG that can be obtained from the account site (ignore the -2 at the end, its just because i tried downloading UE4 a previous 2 times)

alt text

As soon as I open the file it comes up with a prompt saying, "Image Not Recognised".

avatar image Ben Halliday STAFF Mar 19 '14 at 07:20 PM

Hey Takanu,

It looks like you're not getting the full file. The .dmg file is 46.7 MB, and yours is 5.2 MB. Is something interrupting your download? You might need to check your browser restrictions and firewall.

avatar image Takanu Mar 19 '14 at 07:35 PM

You're right, this is very strange though. All 3 browsers i've tried it on have no restrictions, and they aren't being blocked by the computers firewall. On Safari it downloads 5.2MB before stopping, on Chrome it downloads 5Mb before stopping, and on Firefox it just displays part of the data on a webpage in text form rather than downloading it. I've never had this issue with any internet downloads before on either computer :/

avatar image Takanu Mar 19 '14 at 07:55 PM

To add to this, the Windows version has no issues downloading and installing.

Could you try downloading using Curl from the command line, and attach the log?

Open terminal.app and type: curl -vL DONWLOADURL > UnrealEngine-1.0.0-2028188-curl.dmg

Paste the download link from the website where it says DOWNLOADURL. Hopefully this will give us a bit more info about what's going wrong.

Please stay tuned -- we're going to set up another CDN (content delivery network) provider for you to try to see whether that helps.

Thanks a lot for trying that out! That does seem to confirm a CDN issue. We're looking into an alternative CDN host to give you a new link to try.

Also well done on retrying with the redirect URL to get farther! I'm not sure why your first Curl attempt failed like it did, as pasting that same command myself works correctly.

We believe we have fixed the problem with our CDN and the original download links should work now. If anybody on this thread could please help us test by trying the original download links again and letting us know if you have a problems, we would appreciate it to ensure other users don't run into this issue.

I just got my subscription, and attempted to download the .dmg from the dashboard, it hung for a bit then the webpage it took me to had crazy characters on it, the download prompt didn't appear. I am running Firefox on my iMac and from the USA, East Coast. The windows one appeared to open fine, but I obviously didn't download that. The secondary link appears to have worked for me as well. I am able to log-in and it's now downloading the engine from that application.
