Correct Sprite Size for Paper 2d?

I am trying to get smooth borders on my sprites, but having no luck.
Please review the pics I posted.

Notice the cloud is smooth…
But the Heroes (Eye Guy and Karate Test Guy) is really pixelated around the edges.

I am looking to get something like “Battle Hart” style art, with nice smooth edges on a mobile device.
In order to get these smooth edges…

is it the way the art is being created that is causing jagged pixels
is it from my orthographic which is 2048?
is it from the UE4 engine in Paper 2d, which really doesn’t give smooth pixels for 2d games?

Any help would be really appreciated… I am trying to get the following:

  • How to get Smooth Borders/Pixels on all my character assets in Mobile and PC games
  • Asking for the best process to create 2d Art (what best size)?
  • Asking best process for animation? (I currently use Illustrator, then export to PSD, then into Spine for animation)

Thanks for the help.

You would need to change your sprite’s texture settings from “nearest” or “source” to bi-linear.
Unfortunately at this moment you have 2 options. You either have a crisp looking sprite that has that blocky look all around thin lines or a smooth looking one but washed out. I know it sucks but if more people get aboard the paper2d train and we start complaining more maybe something good will happen soon!
