Have Mesh Paint controls "ctrl" and "ctrl+shift" been removed or replaced?

I want to do some vertex blending on a mesh and if I want to paint a color, say full red channel, I paint with the Paint Color a full white, and if I want to subtract values from the red channel I have to go into Paint Color and switch it to black. Ctrl and ctrl+shift do not seem to work for this anymore. has this functionality been changed or removed?

Cannot seem to find any documentation on the tool. If I have missed it, please point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help!

Hello there,

This should point you in the right direction as far as documentation goes:

Happy Painting!

Thank you for that! could not find it by searching “mesh paint” “vertex paint” or anything. Maybe its a little dated because it says hold down control to paint, but in mine, it paints vertex color on the mesh just by right clicking. Shift, by itself, does indeed seem to erase.

I would prefer to have to hit control to paint, because I sometimes accidentally paint on a mesh while using the left and right mouse button held down simultaneously to pan. A slight annoyance. Perhaps this is a bug?

I’d like to bump this. For me, regular left-click paints, shift-left click erases. So the old ctrl-click to paint is gone. That in itself is fine, but right now if I try to pan my viewport camera by pressing my left and right mouse buttons at the same time, the paint tool registers a brush stroke (because I hit left-click.) Maybe the old ctrl-click to paint should make a comeback?

Oops, I meant left click to paint, and shift left click to unpaint, same as you. I get those pesky directions messed up sometimes:)

I’m nearly used to it by now, but the painting while trying to move the camera with left and right click is somewhat annoying.

This is really annoying - I keep screwing up my neatly painted work when I try to move the viewport camera with the left mouse - you used to have to hold CTRL to paint, which was fine.

I notice there that in editor settings you can tell it require CTRL but only for the foliage mode and landscape mode… not the mesh paint mode :frowning:
