Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Hi there, could you please attach the log files and info on your system that are detailed here:

https://answers.unrealengine.com/questions/12363/how-do-i-report-a-bug.html

This will help us determine the cause of the crash. Thank you.

Hi Hell-o

Can you send me a copy of the text that is generated by the crash in the crash reporter as well as your logs which can be found at :

Hey Hell-o -

Let's try this solution first, go into your project's directory and delete the Intermediate and derived Data Cache sub Folders if they are there then open your project and try to open the material editor again.

Let me know -

I have deleted the Intermediate folder and all inside but still the same and I am posting again my logs.

avatar image Hell-o Nov 10 '14 at 10:08 PM

I don't think its so easy because I see on logs problems with compiling shader and and other problems.

Hey Hell-o -

I have not heard of any major problems with the Material Editor crashing the editor recently and haven't been able to reproduce this issue. Two things, can you send me your project zipped up so I can test it internally. Second, I would uninstall and reinstall your editor if you are running from the launcher or recompile if you are building from source.

Thank You

The project its just the default project nothing special and it result that is 650 mb how its possible ? Did you read the logs ?

avatar image Lovecraft_K ♦♦ STAFF Nov 11 '14 at 06:16 PM

Hey Hell-o -

It is the starter content assets in the content sub folders that cause the project to be so large. Yes, we did look through the logs and can tell you that it is a crash regarding a particular shader compilation but without being able to reproduce the crash internally I cannot identify where that shader compilation directly occurs.

Thank You

Hey Hell-o -

Upload the 650MB zip file to a Dropbox and post a link here and I can then I will debug the project. If there is a time constraint for you to get the engine up and running I would absolutely suggest uninstalling and re-installing the engine from your account page.

Thank You

Ok I will do it.

avatar image Hell-o Nov 12 '14 at 10:55 PM

Hi Eric I upload my project to dropbox and here is the link. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/wxu9yr8xothtpch/AAAKYLh5xW6dSXX9WSZJVxF-a?dl=0 I will wait for a response.

Hey Hell-o -

I downloaded your project and nothing was a miss for me. I was able to open the material editor without any crashing. This means that the issue must reside in your installation of the engine. I would go into the Launcher and the library and then verify the install by right click on the engine number and verify. After that see if you can open the Material Editor.

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

Hi,

Got the same issue, and I ve seen that unreal takes a huge amount of data in folder : c:/../user/AppData/local/UunrealEngine/Common

My system harddrive is full, and oddly my material editor started crash since. So i assume this issue depend on it?
