Can't Do Left Shift + Direction While Jumping

Well, it’s pretty weird. I set up a very simple sprint on Left Shift, so that when you press Left Shift it sets max walk speed to a higher number, and on release it sets it back to normal walk speed.

Space Bar is jump so, here’s the results:

Space Bar = Jump

Space Bar + W/A/S/D = Jump in that Direction

Space Bar + Left Shift = Jump in place

Space Bar + Left Shift + W/A/S/D = Run in specified Direction, NO JUMP

So, As a cut-rate solution, I can just use Left Control, instead of Left Shift, and IT WORKS.
What’s wrong with Left Shift?

EDIT: It should be mentioned that the sprint is irrelevant. I’ve fully disconnected shift, but still tried to hold it down, and still got no result.

Please don’t bump questions that are unanswered less than 4 days. (:

Since i don’t have something to do right now, would you mind showing me your Blueprints? Then i can check if you did something wrong somewhere.

Also i need your Key Setup from the project settings.

Maybe i can find something, but it sounds really odd that you just need to change it to control and it works.

Bump. Really need an answer to this issue.

My apologies on the bump. I’m on a tight deadline and panicked a bit.

Here’s a pic of the input and the blueprint. I tried exporting the Input info, but it saves as a .ini which this site doesn’t do.

Hm, ok. Let’s start somewhere:

  • Have you tried using the Shift Event itself instead of the Action Mapping?

  • Have you tried printing some debug messages? For example tried to check if “Jump in Place” really did change your movement speed? (So to check if the Shift key worked there).

  • Have you tried (just for debugging) to change the Key you assigned in the Action Mappings to controll, to check if maybe the bindings are broken?

Because at the moment you have the key event and not the action mapping for the controll key. :X

You could also trie to make a 3rd Input.

  • use Spacebar again for it and also click the “Shift” box at the right side. Call it “Sprint Jump” or something like that and on press/release you do both at once (movementspeed change and jump).

Tell me if something of this worked or the result of the debugging.

I hope i can get this working for you.

Can you change your Keyboard at the “broken” pc or maybe try using teamviewer to connect from the working pc to the broken one to test another keyboard for it. Maybe it’s just your keyboard that has some issues when pressing this combination of keys.

1 - Yes, Same Result regardless of Action Map or just the Left Shift Event. Currently using just the Left Control Event.
2 - Yep, If you end up pressing all 3 buttons, a Directional key, Left Shift, and Jump, it sprints (changes the speed) but does not jump. If you hold shift and jump with no movement it does jump and change the speed.
3 - I just now tried to switch the InputAction Sprint to Left Control and it works.
4 - Just set this up as well, thank you for the suggestion, but no luck. It just won’t work if a direction key + Space Bar + Left Shift is held.

Well, I have an embarrassing truth. I just tried with a different computer and shift works just fine for this. This makes me a bit more confused though, because the “broken” keyboard is typing these CAPS just fine. Really sorry about this. I’m not sure there’s anything you can do. :frowning:

wow, I just looked up several reviews for the keyboard I inherited and EXACTLY this issue came up.

“Major complaint for this is that it does not support certain 3 key combinations needed for modern gaming. This keyboard does not support Shift + W + Space which is sprint and jump in most modern shooters. They officially do not support this.”

I apologies for wasting your time eXi.

wow… im having the same issues… damnit Logi not so tech… funny thing is I can use shift W-A-S jump(spacebar) but just not SHIFT - D - Jump (spacebar)… works on gamepad though… so… hopefully none of my clients have this exact same keyboard

Just popping in to say it also appears to be my keyboard causing me the same issue. I have a Logitech K740 Illuminated Keyboard. If I would have not seen this post I may have wasted hours more trying to figure out how to fix it so thanks I guess XD
