How to create a reference image in the editor to create landscape.

Hello!,

I have just purchased unreal engine 4 and i have had some experience in the past with programs like cry engine , Maya , UDK , i am wondering how i can use a (Plane) flat object to get a similar result as you would in Maya to create landscapes from an Image on the “Plane” flat object.

Any answers or help would be grateful as i am still a newbie to this scene.

The same is Landscape tool. You can use a heightmap to generate terrain or mannually create it. Just choose landscape tab and from there you will have the editting tools.

Hi,

When you start the engine, take a look at the launcher application. There is a learn tab and guess what? I just saw a landscape quick start guide link.

Check there for the Landscape Basics in UE4.
As far as I know there is no need to use a plane in UE4 to create a Landscape from an heightmap.

In order to create a landscape from an heightmap go to:
Landscape Menu → Manage → Selection Tools → Create new Landscape
Then yo have the option to create it from a file:

The heightmap should be of PNG format (16 bits recommended). You can setup the landscape settings before creating it or tweak them after: Selection Tools > Change Component Size:

Have fun!

Thanks heaps guys , i guess i may have missed that on the window , the original intent was to take a map from another game an try to replicate it for learning purposes.

However i think this is the answer to my problems , so thank you very much for your help and detail to my problem!

Thank you
