Scaled bones in an animation

I have a character using a stretchy IK spline rig and the automatic scaling of the bones that takes place therein is not coming over in UE4. I think I remember UDK either not supporting any kind of bone scaling or only supporting it at certain times…

Anyway, is there any way to get this animation to come in with the proper bone scales? They only scale along their length (x-axis) so converting that scaling into translation would be fine too, if there’s a way to do that instead.

Didn’t UE3 automatically convert bone scaling to translation on-import? Does UE4 do that?
