Graphic Memory Error

When starting pre-made the after it loads all the files it gives me this error: “Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering resource.” Then quits out.

Is there a way to fix this error without upgrade my computer?

Hi there,

Can you please provide us the details on your computer such as CPU, Video Card & RAM?

The official requirements detailed in the FAQ are as follows:

Desktop PC or Mac
Windows 7 64-bit or Mac OS X 10.9.2 or later
Quad-core Intel or AMD processor, 2.5 GHz or faster
NVIDIA GeForce 470 GTX or AMD Radeon 6870 HD series card or higher
8 GB RAM

Let us know your computer’s specs and we might be able to find a workaround. Thank you.

Hello,

As said, we will need you to provide us with your dxdiag.

  • If you are running Windows XP or higher go to your task bar.
  • Click on, “Start Button”.
  • Click on, “Run”.
  • In the pop-up window enter dxdiag and hit ok.
  • The DirectX Diagnostic Tool pop-up window should appear.
  • Click on, “Save all information”.
  • Save As" window should be present.
  • Click on, “Save” (The file should be saved to your desktop as dxdiag.txt)
  • Exit the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

After this you will need to attach the dxdiag.txt to your reply.

Hi,

It looks like your notebook has an Intel HD 3000 video card which is below the minimum requirements. There have been many reports by users on this topic, it seems the HD 3000 either barely works, or does not work at all with UE4. The main reason for this is that the card only has 64mb of dedicated memory (total shared is around 1.5gb). Also your laptop has a total of 4gb of ram which is shared with the video card, Windows requires a portion of as UE4 + video memory, causing you to run out of memory.

Here is a response from UE Dev Michael Trepka on using the HD 3000 recently:

“Intel HD 3000 is below minimum system requirements for UE4 and at the moment the editor is totally unusable on this card. UE4 renderer apparently hits some extremely slow code path in the driver, even on simplest scenes, but so far we weren’t able to narrow it down. We’ll keep investigating and hopefully at some point you will be able to use HD 3000”

I would recommend updating to the latest drivers from Intel for the video card and see if that helps. Also when creating a new project make sure to set the scalability settings to low and try again. But you may need to upgrade your computer if this does not help.

I’m having the same problem. I’ve been working with UE4 for months and suddenly it has stopped working. I tried updating the driver but it doesn’t work. I really need help please, I have to present my thesis in less than a month.
Here is my dxdiag report. I have a i7, 16GB RAM and a GTX 960.

Help please,
Thanks in advance.
