Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Error during installation, code 2738

Really hoping to resolve this tonight.

Here is the error I am getting. Basically I go to install, I tell it to install to the suggested directory, and from there it gives me this.

A user with the same issue provided logs which confirmed one of my suspicions. Perhaps you could try the steps outlined in this thread: Link

The few lines around "MSI (s) (24:7C) [13:48:04:752]:" in your log file seem to imply that Windows Installer is not able to access the source msi file for some reason (Ex. C:\Users\VigeoJames\Downloads\UnrealEngineinstaller.msi). Is that folder or drive encrypted? If so, try moving the installer to a folder that is not encrypted before running it.

Wow, so simple. All I did was move the file from the downloads folder to the desktop. It worked. Thank you for your help and sorry for such a simple solution.

Hi SpacemanChuck,

Hmm, are you trying to install to the root directory on a drive? If so that is known issue that we're currently working on.

I'm installing here. C:\Program Files\Unreal Engine\

avatar image Carlos Cuello STAFF Mar 21 '14 at 03:34 AM

Also, can you try running the following and posting the log file generated?

msiexec /i UnrealEngineInstaller.msi /L*V UnrealEngineInstallerLog.txt

Thanks!

I have windows 8 that I haven't installed yet. Would it run on win 8 any better?

avatar image Carlos Cuello STAFF Mar 21 '14 at 03:42 AM

We support Windows 7 & 8/8.1 64bit, so as long as your on Windows 7 64bit you shouldn't have to. Can you post your dxdiag as well if you get a chance? Thanks!

avatar image SpacemanChuck Mar 21 '14 at 03:45 AM

Sorry game artist here, not sure what dxdiag is...

avatar image SpacemanChuck Mar 21 '14 at 03:47 AM

also will need instructions on how this.

msiexec /i UnrealEngineInstaller.msi /L*V UnrealEngineInstallerLog.txt

avatar image SpacemanChuck Mar 21 '14 at 03:47 AM

How to run this rather.

avatar image Carlos Cuello STAFF Mar 21 '14 at 03:51 AM

Oh, no worries!

For dxdiag, hit "WindowsKey"+R, then type "dxdiag" in the text field, it will open up a new window, then hit the "Save All Info" button on the bottom and post it on here.

Same goes for the "msiexec " command, tho I believe you will have to add the directory path to the UnrealEngineInstaller.msi file (or go there with a commandprompt first).

Cant's seem to work out the msiexec part. can you spell it out for me?

avatar image SpacemanChuck Mar 21 '14 at 05:15 AM

Any update Carlos? Can't get you the msiexec without a bit more of a walk through.

avatar image Carlos Cuello STAFF Mar 21 '14 at 05:34 AM

Sure thing, just run Windows key +R again, and this time out the msiexec command I posted (just put your full path to the installer). So if the installer was on the root C:\ drive you would hit Windows+R, then type:

msiexec /i C:\UnrealEngineInstaller.msi /L*V UnrealEngineInstallerLog.txt

avatar image SpacemanChuck Mar 21 '14 at 05:50 AM

Ahh, got ya.

avatar image SpacemanChuck Mar 21 '14 at 02:50 PM

I'm not sure if I'm doing this wrong but I don't get a file I can send you from this... It just opens a window.

Also is there any idea about what's actually going on with this. This eating up a lot of time...

avatar image 0xDEADBEEF STAFF Mar 21 '14 at 03:08 PM

Can you copy/paste the commandline you used exactly and also tell me what folder your .msi installer is in? With that info I'll be able to walk you through the process of getting the log file.

avatar image SpacemanChuck Mar 21 '14 at 06:01 PM

Sure thing. I will try to get back to you when I get home from work, but I may not be able to get to this until next week as I'm heading out of town.

I am getting the same problem except it says error 2755. I am using Windows 7. I tried to install to other directories and have had no luck.

The different error code is probably a different issue. To help you further, perhaps you could post the log from your install process? Carlos provided a sample commandline that will generate installer logs(just be sure to replace UnrealEngineInstaller.msi with the full path and name of your installer. You may need to use quotes if there is a space in the path). If you are unable to generate the log let me know what folder your .msi is in and I'll provide you with a full command you can run.

 msiexec /i C:\UnrealEngineInstaller.msi /L*V UnrealEngineInstallerLog.txt
