YouTube videos?

I started creating videos after viewing this post and answer by your staff and I hope I’m staying inside the legal bounds of my use. See I’m creating a flying game for non profit, just my own thing and I have been updating my progress on YouTube. Recently I read your license agreement and it says you cant show engine source code or even the tools(what even is that?). Now I’m just opening the Blueprint editor and showing how I use the BP to create my effects. I also seen other videos on YouTube with people doing the same thing. Is there a difference in what I’m reading in your licence agreement compared to what I’m thinking? Again I’m not giving downloads to the engine or anything, I’m just showing my progress and not monetizing my videos. Its mainly for displaying my own skills with unreal 4 and to help others find solutions to the same creative thinking. I also post this in my video description “All rights reserved for content shown belongs to Unreal Engine this video is for educational purposes only and not for monetary gain.” So I’m in the clear yes?

Hi Avolanty,

That means you are not allowed to make the source code available for download nor can you have editor tools in the product you create (for example, a level editor in the game that uses UE4 tools would not be allowed). Let me know if you have any questions.

OK, so to see if I’m understanding this correctly. If I make a video and its about how the game is being built that DOES NOT use editor tools for “in game use(using the UE4 tools to play my game rather then creating my own gimmicks to play)” then I’m in the clear? Cause when I create a game I use a behavior tree blueprint and create my own blueprints. I NEVER alter source code (or even display it) or try to copycat editor tools for in game use. Its all my own work or a mixture of other peoples creative tutorial work. So in general you guys just DON’T WANT people displaying how the engine works from a developers level, your OK with people seeing how tools can create a game(this blueprint does this, and that blueprint does that), you just DON’T WANT them showing how these tools work(source code for tools themselves).

Actually, it’s more lenient than that. You can show code in a video, it was just that the source code could be available for download. The in-editor tools and pre-made blueprints are also ok to be shown off in a video as much as you’d like.

Though you can show source in the video, posting snippets of source code is also allowed to a certain extent; You can share up to 30 lines of source at a time if you need to (for example, if you wanted to share some specific change by posting it in the video description).

Let me know if you have any questions or areas that need better clarification.

Thanks for clearing that up
