How do I render my Matinee Movie?

I’ve got a director group working with my camera group, I’ve got a frame on frame 1 for my director group. I’ve gone to my MatineeActor and selected Play on Level load, but when I render a video, it still just crashes Matinee. I think it’s still rendering the playable game instead of my cinematic.

Hello rileygdev,

There are two buttons in the Matinee editor window at the top right by default. One is "Movie’ which allows you to render out your Matinee as a movie using a director camera. There are other options within this feature as well which allow you to do an image to image render as well as a .avi video file with a specific set frame rate.

What you will want to do is start your camera matinee on level begin so that it’s not recording any actual gameplay.

The other button, “Record”, can be used to record using a free moving camera. This will create a new Camera Group and Track in your matinee. Here is also a great forum post on the related issue/topic.

Cinematic Rendering using Matinee

Hope this helped solve your issue!

Thanks,

Hi

I am having problems exporting my movie, I hit the movie boton, choose Video sequence and than create. Starts capturing the movie but than when i open the avi. file a just get a image i mean the camera does not move.
Can anyone help?

Are you working within Sequencer or Matinee?

For both you want to make sure you have either a Master Sequence established or a Director Track which will control the switching between cameras/cuts.

Can you walk me through exactly the process you are following, up to the point in which you finalize the Movie dialog window and choose your export settings?

Thank you,

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

My workflow was the following: Open Matinee - Create a group camera - make a camera path. Than i can see it playing.
Afterwards i try to export the movie hitting the movie icon. I get these options: 1Costume render passes - 2Video Sequence - 3Image sequence(png) - 4Image Sequence(jpeg) - 5Image Sequence(bmp).

I choose video Sequence and than hit create. Starts Capturing but the camera does not move and i get a still image.

Thanks
Joana

You need to make sure you are adding a director track and the Matinee is being called to play from either the ‘Auto-Play’ feature on the Matinee actor itself, or that you have blueprint logic to drive the playback.

Matinee - Director Track

With that said, we have completely replaced Matinee with our new cinematics tool called Sequencer. It is easier to use and has a lot more features for creating quality cinematics within a shorter amount of time.

I would definitely take a look at our new cinematics editor tool. Let me know if you have further questions.
