Landscape Painting errors?

I’m having issues painting my terrain. I keep getting the gray checkered gridlines instead of the paint. First layer, dirt, is set to alpha. The rest are set to Height blend. I have attached a view of my material node setup, so maybe someone can tell me if this is incorrect and causing the issues. It’s setup this way in my attempt to use PBR textures for the landscape. I have painted the entire landscape with each layer multiple times and it does not correct the issue. I have also switched the textures to Share: Wrap to utilize 4.6’s updates, just incase that was the issue. Did not correct it. Can anyone help?

Hello Geogos999,

The way you have your material set up for your landscape looks more complex than I am used to, but that does not mean it doesn’t work. I usually like to start simple using only the diffuse and normal texture samples to create the layers for my landscape material. Here are a few screenshots of how I set up my landscape material and how it blends when I paint on the actual landscape itself.

Landscape Material Set Up

Like I mentioned, I start with a few solid textures that I can blend in between before complicating the material. Check to make sure they all blend well with one another, paint your entire landscape with a simple base, and then go back adding textures and detail to your landscape.

Landscape Blend Preview

The landscape documentation suggests that if you are using an Height Blend, to break it up by using an Alpha Blend with one of your layers to avoid getting potential black spots on the landscape.

Cheers,
