Import sapling from blender to ue4?

I used the sapling add on in blender to make a tree for my game but when I export it as a .fbx all I get when I import it into UE4 is the leaves and no textures or anything. What am I doing wrong?

It would help if you could provide a couple of screenshots from:

  • The Sapling inside Blender
  • Your Export Settings in Blender
  • Your Material Settings in Blender
  • Your Import Settings in UE4
  • The Sapling inside UE4
  • Your Material Settings in UE4 for the Sapling

here is what happens

Before exporting you have to convert it to a mesh → select the entire tree - space - convert to - mesh  For the textures: The best way is to import them manually - go into the uv editor and save your texture as a picture - import it - right click onto it - create material - assign it to your tree

Would that allow me yo use the animations still? And thanks for the help I’ll try it and see what happens tonight

Oh, you want to use an animation with that tree ^^ → no, this wont work, but what kind of animation do you want to use with your tree? Before you made the animation, have you combined both parts (this will prevent some problems)? Enable “import animation” in your import settings and check if you can probably see the trunk in one of the anims. Otherwise, would it be possible for you to upload the mesh somewhere so that we can take a look at it?

It has a wind blow animation and no they are not connected as one object

still not working on importing. I joined them and tried still same thing

Ok got it to work now. I get the tree and the leaves are now on it and I can texture them but the textures don’t come in at all it just solid white.

Nice to hear that it’s working now → what was the solution? The easiest way is to import the textures manually → so export them from blender and import them into the UE4 - add them to the material

Changed in export on blender from binary to the other option and now it works. But I get a UV error of 100% overlap

After you rebuild the light? → make sure that you have a proper lightmap: (not the recommended way) → ://

You says you fixed the problem… but you don’t says how exactly. Getting the tree is easy once converted to a mesh. How do you succeed in exporting the tree + the armature + the animation…
I succeed to get the skeletal mesh into UE4 but no anim. Could you please tell how you do proceed ?

Attempt the import again but try importing normals and tangents rather than calculating them in ue4.
