Continuous crashing

Branch: Binary build from launcher

Build version: 4.6.0 - 2369412+++depot+UE4-Releases+4.6

Issue: Editor keeps crashing the entire system, mostly within first ten minutes of use. No specific interaction or operation seem to be causing the crashes - several times it also crashed from idle.
Only really recurring event is the sound of the machines ressource usage, suddenly increasing sort of abruptly (also while idle); and then: crash.
I can see in the Report.wer, that it’s a video hardware error, but only UE triggers it; system and other software runs and renders flawlessly.

Settings: default.

Reprosteps: none, crashes seem to happen at random.

System Specs: Win 7 Pro 64-bit, i7 quad, 32gb ram, GTX680 4gb.

Hey sol22,

So when you say that the entire system is crashing, can you be more clear? Are you saying that the entire computer just shuts down instantly (which would imply an overheating problem), you’re getting a ‘blue screen of death’, or something else?

Unfortunately the crash logs aren’t very helpful because the command to shut down the engine is from an external source (the video hardware error, as you described). Are you using the most up-to-date drivers from NVIDIA?

Computer reboots instantly, screen goes dark, no bluescreen - just like a sudden power-glitch. Drivers are updated.

As mentioned, everything else is running flawlessly, I’m using the computer for 8K compositing and other ressource intensive things without any problems…

Turns out that the cover containing all three fan’s for my gtx680 had some how managed to loosen itself and fall of.
Stupid of me not to check this before posting, but as mentioned earlier, everything else seemed to work fine.
