Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

can my brother and i both use unreal?

We have one computer. while I am away, is my brother allowed to further develop our game? If and when we acquire another computer that can run unreal, we will sign up for another subscription, but i see no reason to have 2 subscriptions when only one person can use it at a time.

Short answer is no. When you log in to use unreal you are logging in as yourself, the person who bought the subscription. If you're brother wants to use unreal, he needs to buy his own subscription. He is logging in with your username and password, saying to epic that he is you, and not himself. Check out the EULA for more in depth info on this.

I get that but when I am using unreal, he will be looking over my shoulder helping me, we wouldn't be actually using two editors at the same time. Tell me why i should pay 40 dollars a month just so we're allowed to hand the keyboard over!

The subscription license is for one user only, so it can't cover two individuals. However, there is no obligation to continue paying the subscription after the first month for one or both users - that's up to you. Even if you don't continue the subscription, you can continue using the last version you obtained under the subscription under the terms of the license.

But then I wouldn't be allowed to use the updates would I? maybe I should look further into cryengine since its half the price and no royalties are demanded.

But then I wouldn't be allowed to use the updates would I?

You're correct that access to engine updates is not allowed outside of an active subscription.

Thank you, I appreciate the clarity. I'm afraid we must take our business elsewhere, but i advise you to change this policy because you will regret it.

can we both use the same unreal account if we have both paid for separate subscribtions?

avatar image atypic STAFF Dec 12 '14 at 03:16 PM

Sort of. You're permitted to share the engine with licensees that have the same access that you do, but you're not supposed to share your account info (like login/password) with others.

so, he would be allowed to use my account while i am already signed in and vice versa, assuming we had the same updates.

avatar image atypic STAFF Dec 12 '14 at 04:22 PM

Yes, I think that would be fine.

avatar image cavadago Dec 12 '14 at 04:56 PM

could you please confirm this, we don't want to start out in violation of the eula.

avatar image atypic STAFF Dec 12 '14 at 04:58 PM

Sorry I intended to do that - that would be fine.

avatar image cavadago Dec 12 '14 at 05:07 PM

sorry to nag but that is a confirmation right?

avatar image atypic STAFF Dec 12 '14 at 05:48 PM

Yes you can allow another licensee with the same level of engine access to use your account, but you are not allowed to share account access info.
