[4.6] Moving composite font from Windows to OSX causes crash

Pretty much what the title says. I created a composite font using .otf fonts I bought from blambot.com (one font also causes a crash on trying to import). But when I try to move the uasset files over to my mac, the editor crashes when I try to open the asset.

Attached is the crash log and the fonts (.uasset)

I’ve tried those font assets on our Mac and they seem to work fine here. Are there any editor config settings you’ve changed from the default?

The crash itself is in the thumbnail rendering for the font asset.

I don’t think I’ve changed anything in the editor config. I started a new project, 3rd person, c++, mobile/max/no starter content, and added the assets to a new directory Game/UI/Font.

I’m finding that sometimes it works, sometimes it crashes (after restarting). I haven’t figured out a pattern to it through. Starting up my backup mac mini to try it out there.

I got the same result on the mini after the 3rd time (start editor, open font, close editor if it works)

Ouch. Went back and tried to delete. Got a crash. Tried again, delete went through.

Tried rebuilding asset from the .otf files. Regular font (cloudsplitter) imported okay, got a crash on the bold.

Attached crash reports.

Thanks… are you building from source or running a binary version from the launcher?

If you’re using a binary version, could you try applying the 4.6 QFE just to rule out a crash in the font cache: Current Available Quick-Fix Solutions - Announcements - Epic Developer Community Forums

If you’re building from source, the latest on the 4.6 branch should already contain this fix.

EDIT: Should be fixed in 4.6.1 which contains that QFE.

Running the binary version. The 4.6 QFE for mac is showing up damaged:

“QFE-FromCL-2374938-Shelve-2375905” is
damaged and can’t be opened. You
should move it to the Trash.

That error message seems to be from Gatekeeper, and there seems to be a fair few complaints around the internet of it misidentifying a variety of applications with that error message.

I tried on my Mac at home and got the same error you reported, but if I disabled Gatekeeper, the app ran fine (you can re-enable it again afterwards):

So far the QFE seems to be working.

Good to know, thanks.

That fix will also be present in 4.6.1.
