Directional Light Light Shafts only shows when looking up?

Hi, I have a directional light with light shafts turned on. I have a underground tunnel map with the only light source coming from industrial ceiling fans. I want the light shaft to be visible as the player walks away or looks down. It only shows up when I go right under the ceiling fan looking up. Is there away to make it be visible at all times? A light function? (I have no experience with light functions - if that’s the solution, I would like a tutorial or answer on making a light shaft visible at all times). I noticed that the blueprint examples from the library you can download has light shafts that are visible at all times. Here’s some screenshots of the problem:

Hi

So to get the effect you want, you actually have to fake it using planes. Best example of this is in the office blueprint example. You can copy those files to achieve a the result you want. Best to have a look at it to understand it better.

What if I wanted my light beams to be animated? The fan is spinning and casting dynamic shadows. Will that be possible with that blueprint light beam example?

This I am not sure about. Probably not. Might involve animating the planes. But that’s a bit beyond my knowledge. I guess trail and error would be best approach.

Hi, I actually wanted a similar effect like you.

In your case, your best-performance solution might be to have a translucent cone on the contour of the light bundle and animate it with a panning stripes pattern so that the shadow of the blades is simulated. The epic “blueprint” office demo has a security cam-scanner that might get you started.

If you want to have the most accurate simulation of volumetric fog I suggest you look at an asset I provided to the market place.

I wanted to have a butterfly in bright moon-light, so that its shadows is visible in the light. I ended up making a series of emissive planes that fill up the light, which as cool side feature let’s you add a mask to it, which you can use to make a… SPINNING FAN! You can see it in action in this video:

The butterfly video can be seen here:
