Uninstalled UE4, Can't Reinstall

Had to uninstall UE4 due to some issues, mostly user error, but now it won’t let me download it again.

I did not realize the drive space needed to install UE4 +PLUS+ the extra content was going to be well over 16GB and therefore I quickly ran out of space on my C:. After moving the UE4 folder to another location it no longer worked. So I uninstalled it and when I ran the launcher to download the files again the launcher just says “Launch” with no option to download the files.

Help?!

That worked guys! Thanks!

Hi Baer,

If you have not yet got a valid install, and need to “start over” Here’s a workaround:-

Delete the contents of the folder:-

C:\ProgramData\Epic\UnrealEngineLauncher

This will make Launcher start in a state where it needs to re-download everything.

Does that help?

Thanks,
Leigh

Hi Baer,

There are manifest files the launcher uses to determine if things have been installed or need to be updated. They are what are causing the launcher to believe it’s still installed. Just delete the manifest associated with what you removed and the launcher will treat it as if it’s never downloaded it before.

You can find them here:
C:\ProgramData\Epic\UnrealEngineLauncher\Data\Manifests

I’ve done all of the above, but I’m now stuck with a Subscribe button that won’t go away, even if I cancel and resubscribe. So I just deleted the whole Epic folder and now it only has Epic>UnrealEngineLauncher>Data>EMS>UnrealEngineLauncher>(images, content). So not everything gets recreated it seems. I’ve tried reinstalling and restarting my computer time and time again but I still can’t get rid of that Subscribe button.
