4.7.0 preview 1 - Mobile dynamic shadows not working

Thanks for the new preview releases guys! Awesome work as always.

Just checking a simple project and I’m noticing that mobile dynamic shadows are no longer rendering. They are fine in 4.6.1.

I can replicate the issue with the 3rd person template scene. So I don’t think it’s project related.

Has the process changed in 4.7?

Also, this is in the mobile previewer and the viewport. I cannot build to device it currently hangs on a Mac, when I try and run on a connected device.

Thanks!

Howdy reefG,

Thank you for reporting this issue. i have tried to repro this issue and have been unsuccessful with seeing any errors. I am going to need a bit more information. Would you be able to provide your DXdiag? Also, are you using a Source build of UE4 or the Binary build?

Is there a quick way that I may be able to reproduce this error internally?

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks and have a great day!

Hi Sean,

Thank you for your quick response.

I’m using the 4.7.0 preview 1 build installed from the UE4 launcher. I’m running on OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on a Mac Pro (2013 trash can model).

I can replicate the problem by creating a new c++ project using the 3rd person template, and setting the target hardware to “mobile” “maximum quality” + “with starter content”

I then set the direction light to moveable, and at that point I expect to see realtime dynamic shadow in the mobile previewer and the in editor mobile display mode.

I hope that helps!

UPDATE:

I can now deploy to a device.

It seems that if I switch on the “Supports Deferred Rendering with Metal (A8 and up devices)” rendering option for iOS then the launch on device will cause the Editor to hang and become unresponsive.

Hope that helps!

This is definitely not answered. The mobile shadows issues is still present.

Howdy reefG,

So i was testing the issue and found that the issue is only Mac specific. I have been able to reproduce the issue that you have been seeing. I have written Jira Report UE-6939 and place it into our bug database so that the issue may be resolved in a future release.

Thanks and have a great day!

Thank you Sean. I look forward to the fix.

Thanks for your help on this matter.
