Hi sbsimosb,

(Not a lawyer!) While it is best to check with attorney's who handle specific copyright laws, national monuments and some paintings, including the Mona Lisa, are considered public domain and can be used/reproduced freely. Typically, an item is copyrighted for the life of the creator+50 years or +75 years if it has corporate authorship. After which it becomes public domain. You can find some general information on copyright and public domain here, though I would advise you to contact someone who works in the legal field for a more comprehensive look at these lawas:
