Importing FBX in UE4: big squares

Hi everyone

Lately I’ve been Learning how to use ue4, and while importing fbx, I have a strange bug. Some models just import perfectly, but some come with big geometrical shapes attached to it, as in : http://s7.postimg.org/iwbjewqcb/fbxue4.png
So I’ve tried importing them in Maya 2015, and I get these shapes as well : http://s13.postimg.org/79ww78tfb/fbxue42.png

Does someone know how it gets this messy? I’ve tried deleting the shapes on Maya, but then UE4 won’t let me reimport them… Btw, I got these models on turbosquid, both the working and bugging ones.

Thank your for your time

Hi hyperblast,

Since you are getting the same bug when importing into Maya 2015 this shows there is a problem with the files themselves and not the Engine. I suggest reporting the issue to the person who modeled them in turbosquid.

However, if you have them in Maya 2015 you should be able to modify them by separating the shapes, if combined, deleting their history, deleting the unwanted shapes, grouping or combining the wanted shapes, resetting the transformation so that the mesh is positioned at 0,0,0, in the center of the graph and following proper export as an fbx guidelines (ie. include smoothing groups etc.)

That’s all I can suggest because technically Epic cannot troubleshoot assets acquired from third parties like turbo squid.

Hi, and thank you

I had already tested importing them in maya and deleting the shapes, but then UE4 wouldn’t recognize them anymore… I’ll try every step you suggested to see if anything changes.

Or else I won’t use these models…
