Crash on startup UE 4.6.1 and 4.7

Hi all,

I changed my HDD to an SSD drive, so I installed a fresh Windows 8.1 pro install, the newest NVIDIA driver for my GeForce 555 and the unreal engine (versions 4.3.1 , 4.6.1 and 4.7)
With the UE 4.3.1 version, it’s ok, the editor start correctly and there are no problems.
With UE 4.6.1 and UE 4.7, after few seconds that the engine is started, windows report that the application is crashed with this details:

I tryed to get the Quick Fixes but nothing change. Can anyone help me? My SSD hard drive have 45GB free, I have 8GB ram and an I7@3.5 GHz

Hey Elipse -

Are you receiving the UE4 Crash Reporter when your editor crashes or is it immediately going to the Windows Crash information above? If you are getting the Crash Reporter, can you please let me know what the Machine ID is that’s listed in the pop up?

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

I’m getting directly the Windows Crash information, the black screen of the UE crash is never showed (this is also strange)
Now I tried to install the UE 4.5.1 but also this version crash on startup! Now I’m going to try the 4.4

What project are you attempting to open? Try to see if just opening Third Person Template also crashes the Editor on Start up

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

The editor crash if i open a random project or even if I stay in the Project Browser

Hi Eric, I have tried to start the Editor without power-on the Oculus Rift, and the editor doesn’t crash anymore. Hope this can be usefull to understand the origin of the problem.

Hey Elipse -

I have checked with some of our Occulus Testers here and they wanted to check to see if you had the current 4.4 runtime for the Rift? If not try that and see if you still are getting the crash. I am glad though you found a workaround.

Thank You

Eric Ketchum

Hi Eric,
yes, I have the last release of the runtime. It’s really weird, after the first time that I launched the UE with the oculus off-power, the crash never happen again. Even if I restart the PC, the UE now open without problem, even with the oculus power-on.

Thank You for the support, and I wish you Merry Christmas guys!
