Zooming issues in Blueprints

UE version 4.0.1 - 2027741

There is a problem with zooming in Blueprints (its simillar to the problem in Material Editor). When I use mouse scroll whell for zooming its start zooming in the reverse direction. Its really problematic when I work on huge nodes.

Hello there,

Have you changed any settings in the Editor Preferences? Does resetting them to their Defaults help your issue?

Thanks,

-W

Hello

I did’t change any settings and all Editor Proferences are default, and of course I checked my mouse - scrol whell is ok and it happen on different mouse too.

Hi Sbohater,

Is this issue still occurring? If so, can you provide your system information via dxdiag?

Thanks!

-W

Hi @sbohater,

We have not heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing the issue you reported, please respond to this message with additional information and we will offer further assistance.

Thank you.

I’m also getting this problem on both clean source of 4.4.2 and 4.3.1. I can zoom out in a blueprint but scroll zooming out seems to bug. It will zoom out by 1 level every now and then. Feels like the window doesn’t have focus.

The problem only exists within Blueprints graph. zooming works in game editor and component editor.

Hi FoxB,

Does this occur on a clean project with no additional content? Additionally what specifically occurs when you zoom out? I tried this on source and binary and didn’t see anything that would be considered abnormal.

Yes it occurs on clean projects and zoom out works as normal. I think this could be a pretty rare bug as I have used various UE4 (Both Dev and UDK) builds on different machines and never had it before.

My main difference is that this machine has a Microsoft wireless mouse so I shall see if I can replicate this bug on another machine (of same spec/build) and also change the mouse. I’ll post anything I find here…

Hi FoxB,

Have you been able to replicate this on a separate machine?

OK so i have found the error is down to the mouse being a wireless one. On my machine with a wired mouse the issue is fixed, on another machine with a wireless mouse it is broke and on my machine with a different wireless mouse (same model) it is broken. Only test i havn’t done and cant do is to try a different model of wireless mouse…

I’ve included a pic of the mouse used in case it is a bug you will pursue to fix…

Hi FoxB,

I am happy to hear you found the root of the problem! I will mark this as answered for tracking purposes and pass this information along to be assessed.

I have a Logitech Performance MX Darkfield wireless mouse.
It was working fine in UE4 till today. The scroll to zoom-in in 4.8 stopped working (though zoom-out still works), and seems to persist through restart, re-plugging, rebooting. The scroll works fine in the camera-based viewports. just not the Blueprint canvas or Widget designer viewport, so I think it’s a bug in UE4, not a mouse problem.

Tip : if this happens to you, click on a node and press Home and the view will frame around it at 1:1

Hi ,

I attempted this on my end but have not been able to reproduce the error. I used the same mouse (Performance MX Darkfield wireless) and was able to zoom in/out of both blueprints and UMG widgets. Attempted pressing home on nodes to be certain and this did not produce the error you described either. Are there any other steps I can take to reproduce this on my end?

I had this exact same issue with a wireless mouse.

In Blue Prints or Material editors.
Zoom out with mouse wheel works fine. Zoom in very sporadic (10% of the time). The mouse wheel works fine scrolling scroll bars (for example the Palette window mouse wheel works fine to scroll in our out).

A work around I used was looking at the key bindings, you can zoom in and out using the numpad +/- buttons.
Or you can change them to something specific to you.

Seems to me like there is a bug in Unreal, or some mouse compatibility issues.

It’s 2020 here and I’ve intermittently had this problem on 4.20 and 4.24 and yes, literally the same problem described. Zoom In becomes somewhat erratic, maybe working 10% of the time, and zoom out works consistently. Same problem, also a wireless mouse. It was working fine for a while and then came back again. Works fine in EVERY other application, and in the MAP editor, etc,. as reported. Blueprints, can’t zoom back in efficiently. Really nuts!

Edit: One thing I noticed. The Editor PICKS UP that you’re moving the mouse wheel. The Zoom level in the top right highlights as you try to zoom in and goes dark when you stop. It just doesn’t zoom. It’s definitely something in the editor.

I’ve fixed it by setting correct screen resolution. After switching to native monitor resolution (in my case 1920x1080) zooming was fixed for both in and out. No more jumping in random positions.

P.S. UE 5EA

I am still seeing this issue on Widget Blueprints. Regular blueprints have no zooming issues at all but widget blueprints only zoom out consistently when you scroll. zooming in doesn’t work unless you scroll really fast, resulting in absolutely no precision. Adjusting the screen size does not improve it at all. At the moment the workaround is to zoom in way to far then precisely zoom out or to not use the scroll wheel at all for zooming. Since this issue has been going on since 2014 I don’t expect it to ever get fixed. This comment is more for people to know this is an issue with UE and not with their mouse. (UE 5.3.2)
