Editor 4K-Support

Hi guys,
i recently bought a new UHD/4K Display and was hoping that ue4 would have some kind of hdpi-support. Running the editor in the upscaled version how Windows intended it as default left me with a pixelated look. After some research i found the Widget reflector and using it does the trick (almost) for me but this solution has one downside… i am no longer able to select or move anything inside the 3D-window (if i click on a specific mesh, some other will be selected etc.)

Has anyone experienced the same problem and is there a solution out there or something?

I have the same problem with my Laptop UHD display and decided to go with the pixelated look. Luckily I use an external FHD Display on the side. So I guess that’s the best option for now since lots of applications doesn’t support 4K. even windows media player!!!

Hi
well… i guess we can agree upon that windows media player should not be the reference for anything X-D

i like the relatively “new” feature that adobe provides to scale things up… the unreal editor has anything it needs to be even better with its Widget reflector but the select-issue has to be adressed in my opinion  we already have oculus support and crazy things like that and 4K/UHD is comming to so it would be great to be able to develop in the targeted soultion

For now i have to work in the pixelated look, it works and i get my work done but its not pretty

I’ve seen adobe scaling the UI 200% and it works fine. But Autodesk Maya 2015 Still doesn’t support 4K hows that! :D. It doesn’t even get pixelated everything is simply small. I’m going to try 3D Max 2015 to see if it works.

I’ve also been “dealing” with this issue. I was hopeful that 4.8 preview would address the viewport selection problem, but no luck. I’ve been bouncing between the use of ‘widget scaling’ and getting real close to my new Samsung 28" 4K monitor. It’s a lovely display, but Windows, and most apps don’t react very well to such high DPI… Meanwhile, when I hook up my MacBook Pro, it just works. (slight rant)
Epic, any plans on addressing what seems to be just a few more oddities with high-DPI support? Don’t all your devs have 4K displays yet?
Disclaimer: No complaints, formally… wonderful toolset, great company…

Cheers!

This helped me.

Hi , sadly it doesnt work right :frowning: You can use it to scale the ui but then you break the mouse-selection inside the editor

Hi All,

I agree this is a problem, I have 40" Philips UHD display for now i using 125% windows DPI to make it usable.

This solution helping me, but I losing 4K :frowning:

Same problem on Samsung U32D970Q UHD monitor (31.5"). I use Unreal Editor at 150% (in Windows display settings) and effectively lose many advantages of 4k resolution plus getting blurry menus. Using at 100% is possible, but causes eye strain after 2-3 hours. Proper support would be needed from Unreal’s side.

wow, more than a year has past and there is still no solution to this?! maybe someone knows when to expect changes regarding the high-dpi displays`? UHD/4k is more than ever a topic :frowning:

Aaaand no support for hidpi yet.

4.14 is out and still no solution…

Hi Flash7, at least the widget reflector scaling now works (almost, besides the flickering from the dropdown menu entries…^^) and you can properly select 3D actors in the editor

that being said… its still a shame that there isn´t an option for this like it is in photoshop -.-

Actually, here is a solution:

“we” did it. 4.18 has highdpi support xD it does scale perfectly with the native windows scaling

Solved 4K Scaling Win10 Unreal 4.26.0 with Sharp Text and Sharp Demo FPS using alt + p

Before starting double check your settings and make sure these settings are changed first before applying the method.

Right click on the Unreal Engine “Shortcut”> Properties > Compatibility. UnCheck the box for “Override high DPI scaling behavior.” And yes, uncheck is correct for what we are going to do.

Open Unreal Engine > you may select a new project or current one you have > Click on Edit > Editor Preferences > Make sure “Enable High DPI Support” is Checked.

General > Performance > “Disable DPI Based Editor Viewport” is Checked.

Go ahead and Close Unreal.

Method Setup :

Right Click On Your Desktop and Select Display Settings

Left Click On Your 4K Monitor it should be labeled 1 or 2.

Scroll Down To “Scale and layout”

Click On The Drop Down Menu For “Change the size of text, apps, and other items”

Select 300% Recommended (My setup works with 300% which is the recommended yours might be different but use your own recommended.

Click on “Advanced scaling settings”

“Let Windows try to fix apps so they’re not blurry” Switch This To “OFF” and close the window.

Open Unreal Engine > Click on “Window” at the top left. Click on Developer Tools > Widget Reflector > Application Scale: Change from 1.0 to 0.8 and hit Enter.

Now your Windows apps will be correct size plus Unreal Engine will be correct size with non blurry text and also do alt + p for the FPS demo and that should be sharp as well.

I hope that helps some of yall. I thought something like this would be fixed by now.
