Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Shared Content on Mac OS has wrong permissions

UE4 now installs the engine content at /Users/Shared/UnrealEngine, which is great, since it means that multiple users on the same machine can share the same engines rather than having to each download a full copy. However, the user who first installs it is the only one who is currently given read/write access to that folder. When another user tries to use UE4, it hangs with the text "Resuming",Resuming.

If you manually change the permissions of that folder to give everyone read/write, then it doesn't hang, though it does re-download the engine.

Hi Jeff,

This is a known issue with the Launcher that is reported in our bug database (OPP-1601). For now, the root admin user will need to download any engine updates or content from the Launcher. You should still be able to use the engine on other accounts, however. If you navigate to the installed version of the engine and go to Engine > Binaries > Mac, you can run the UE4Editor.app to open that version of the editor. Hope that helps!

It’s been THREE years since the previous commen! Better part of TWO decades that Apple Mac OS X has been using a multi-user environment with relevant permissions. AND, like many game producers, the assumption is home machines are running with a single user, and with administrative privileges. Come on!! Mature up with your development!! Or, are simply going to blame the operating systems for the difficulties with handling stricter permissions.

Please don’t simply refer the answer to a bug that is three years old, not resolved and nothing on the horizon.

This is also the case with Fortnite, expect there is no UE4Editor.app at the location mentioned. The launcher offers to install the application, then complains the folder isn't empty. With games like Fortnite being marketed at kids, please consider that plenty of those kids will be using their parents Macs with non-admin accounts.
