Normals error on model

Hi Unreal team,

I have a small issue with a model I recently imported.

You will notice in the attached image on the upper right you can see what looks like shadowing on the drones wing.
This appears to be an issue with the normals. So far I have tried evrything possible that I can think of. You will also notice that the issue is not visible when rendered in substance painter (bottom right). This is also the case in Marmoset and Maya.

Thanks in advance

J

Do you have a normal map texture? If yes, check the import settings, an the texture sampler in the material editor should also be set to “Normal”

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes a normal map is attached. Everything is imported…when I set the SamplerType of the Normal Map i get an error.

  1. as already mentioned, set the type of the texture to “normal” (you have to do the same in your material in the texture sample properties)
  2. also flip your green channel → double click onto your normal map in the content browser - in the texture editor you have to enable “flip green channel”

Hi guys,

Right I got it. The issue actually lay with how Substance painter imported the surface normals. This then caused the issue with the export.

(Should anyone have exactly the same issue keep an eye out for having an objects scale set in the - values- Even if all the normals are set to face this still confuses Substance painter.)

Thanks all for your time and help.

Cheers

J
