DXSetup error code -9 during install

Hi,

I have an Alienware 17 run 64 bit Windows 7 that I am attempting to install on.

I’ve followed many of the suggestions found elsewhere on the AnswerHub but haven’t been able to resolve the problem.

Below is the relevant portion of my installation logs. It references DirectX installer code -9, and information about that code is found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177430. Unfortunately, the suggested steps to fix the issue do not fix it.

Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action InstallDirectX, location: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\DirectXRedist\DXSETUP.exe, command: /silent

You can try installing DirectX manually and then running the installer with SKIP_DIRECTX=“1” on the command line to skip that portion of the install. See the the Answer in the following thread for more info:
