A Question About Landscape Material Blend

Hello everyone!

I need a little help about something I am creating. Let me tell you what it is;

  1. You got 3 terrain textures. Let’s say, they are Black, Red, and White.

  2. Black is what covers the whole landscape. White is something you add extra. Red is something that blends between Black and White.

  3. When you want to paint White on Black, you don’t want White to touch/blend to Black at all, instead have Red between. So Red will be the one blending between White and Black as you paint White over Black.

Here is an example;

Long story short, when I want to paint white over black, I want Red to be right between them, so white never touches black, instead Red does that job. (Red will be automatic.)

I hope someone can help, thank you for your time and reading. :slight_smile:

Hello Achilleon,

I am failing to see the question you are asking? Are you looking for advice on how to go about doing this or about how best to go about doing this?

If that is the case I can provide you with some of my own examples on how I set up my own landscape materials and how I have them blending.

It seems you have the correct concept though. Let’s say your black layer is Sand, your white layer is Rock, and the red layer is Mud. You have painted your entire base of your landscape with the Sand. The next step is sort of a personal workflow choice. If you know where your rocks will be you can outline your area with the Mud which will serve as your blending transition.

The next step is to fully paint the area in which your Rocks will be, and to erase the Rock area with any Sand.

Layer Blended Example

This example is not perfect, but it in certain areas you can clearly see where the transition begins and ends. It has three textures, grass, moss, and rocks.

I hope this helps, but if you are still in need of assistance let me know and we can try to clarify a bit more.

Cheers,

Thank you Mr. Andrew. Though I kinda gave about it. Doing it manually seems to be way easier and better since what I need is for some small places. I was just wondering if there was an easy way to do it.

Thank you for your time once again.
