3dsmax Material ID import, without multi/subobject material... ?

i have an issue with ue4 4.6.1. when i import a mesh with multiple IDs, it only imports 1 material. i have to make a multi/subobject material, apply it to the mesh and reimport to have the materials i want on UE.

in version 4.1 i imported the mesh without any material, just the IDs, and everything worked fine.

Is there a way i could do this in 4.6? doing a material adds a step to my workflow so its not very nice.

Currently this is the way we have it implemented when setting up a multiple material object. This step of adding the material to the object ensures that the user wants to have multiple materials on the mesh just in case the user imports a mesh with multiple ID’s, and wants only one material on the object.
