Sounds like you are running into an issue similar to the one outlined here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886549

Microsoft has a utility that should fix things up for you. It is called Microsoft Fix It and you can get it form the link above. If you prefer to fix the issue yourself, the thread I linked also goes into detail about the registry entries that you should investigate. My guess is that one of those registry entries points the F:/\ Which is not a valid path.

okay ill give it a try thankyou for your help.

Hi,
I have followed the microsoft knowledge base issue and run the fix program. No success.
I then went through the manual steps validating the registry entries using regedit and they were exactly what they were supposed to be. Rebooted again and still the same error.
Went right through the registry searching for f:/\ and I did find some references to that within Adobe on a product I did not have so firstly put in a directory that did exist and then rebooted. Still no success. I then went and completely deleted the Adobe reference so if didn’t exist and there were absolutely no f:/\ references at all within the registry and then rebooted. The problem same still exists. At the moment I am at a complete loss as to what could be causing this.

Sorry to hear that the info in the provided link did not lead to a solution. A quick Internet search shows a number of hits that all report that the problem is usually caused by issues in the registry. Since you checked there, perhaps we can further narrow the problem.

Windows Installer is capable of generating detailed logs of the install process. It would be helpful to get these logs to pinpoint the root of the issue. To generate the installer logs, you can follow the steps outlined in this guide: A new, community-hosted Unreal Engine Wiki - Announcements - Epic Developer Community Forums

Thank you for this. I have attached the log file from the install.

After looking into this for a while I’m still not sure why you are seeing this issue. The installer appears to be generating an invalid install path internally. Can you tell me more about the drive letters you have setup? Also, if you tell me the drive and folder you want to install to, I can prepare some parameters we can inject into the installer via commandline that should allow you to work around the issue until I can fix it up.

Hi Megadeath41,

We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as resolved for tracking purposes. If you’re still experiencing this issue, please feel free to post back here with the additional information 0xDEADBEEF requested above.

Cheers,
