Animation and Rigging Toolkit: Y up please

Windows 7 Pro
Maya 2015
Unreal Engine 4.61

When you first start up the Animation Toolkit plugin in Maya, it automatically switches the coordinate system from Y up to Z up. Is there a way to bypass this or turn this setting off without breaking the plugin?
I realise this is the Unreal Default, but I would like to retain Y up when working in Maya due to pipeline tools currently in place, and then reserve the switching on export.

How many dependencies are relying on Z-up in the ART tools. Is it conceivable that someone could modify the tools to work in Y-up land?
