Maya 2015 Animation Rigging Toolkit crash when saving

I’m using Maya 2015 and installed ART, there is not problem to build a skeleton, however, every time when I tried to save the Maya scene, it closes Maya and gives me this error report…

Also the skeleton mesh looks kinda weird on the left side of the picture:

Can anyone help me with this issue please? or do I have to use different Maya version?

Hey -

Officially the ART tool is only supported and tested in Maya 2013 and 2014. That being said, we’ve had users using the ART tool successfully in Maya 2015. The image you show of your “skeleton” is actually the proxy mesh showing the joints and the bone influences. So the first question I have is whether you are able to step through the entire Skeleton creation process and get the controllers in place. At this point, can you then save the Maya scene? The rendering errors on the proxy mesh, I have never seen that one before does the error change if you rotate the camera around the model (i.e. switch sides)?

It also might be worthwhile to submit a bug report with Autodesk as they may be able to identify the root of the problem as well.

Hi Eric,

The proxy mesh error doesnt change if I rotate the camera. I tried to go through the whole process, but when I tried to build the control rig, it gives me and error and closes Maya.

I also added new modules, maybe I didnt add it in a correct way? I’m very new to this toolkit, maybe I did something wrong accidently?

Hey -

I know that there has been some issues in the past with Added Rig Modules and 2015 but I am fairly confident that they have been cleared up. Let me ask, Have you downloaded the ART from the dropbox location here, Dropbox - Maya_AnimationRiggingTools - Simplify your life

That location always has the most up to date version of the ART. If you haven’t download, do that and re-install this newer version and let me know if you still experience this problem

I downloaded the version from the link you gave me. After I clicked on skin proxy mesh. It gives me this error.


I also downloaded UE 4.6, I compared to 4.7 ART folder, it looks like this, I dont know if there is something to do with the error.


So I used Maya 2013 and installed UE 4.6 ART plugin and it works perfectly well. The proxy mesh look perfect like its supposed to be, I can save the Maya scene without closing Maya and giving me an error. I haven’t tried to install use the plugin version from the link you gave me with Maya 2013 yet. But since now everything works out I stick with Maya 2013 and UE 4.6 ART. Perhaps Maya 2015 is not ready for ART yet, it also comes with some other display bugs.
