Search help

  • Simple searches use one or more words. Separate the words with spaces (cat dog) to search cat,dog or both. Separate the words with plus signs (cat +dog) to search for items that may contain cat but must contain dog.
  • You can further refine your search on the search results page, where you can search by keywords, author, topic. These can be combined with each other. Examples
    • cat dog --matches anything with cat,dog or both
    • cat +dog --searches for cat +dog where dog is a mandatory term
    • cat -dog -- searches for cat excluding any result containing dog
    • [cats] —will restrict your search to results with topic named "cats"
    • [cats] [dogs] —will restrict your search to results with both topics, "cats", and "dogs"

Speedtree Grass For Foliage

Hello!

i have 3 different grass meshes without LODs each with about 14 tris, would it be better to use speedtree to make grass with LODs. i need grass for a big open world type landscape. I've been looking for grass with about 6 tris but no luck so i thought i'd turn to speedtree.

any suggestions, anythings better than nothing. Thanks!

It depends ;) When you are a good 3d artist I personally would do it with a 3d program, otherwise use SpeedTree -> there are no real differences in quality between both ways

Would it affect performance if I used speedtree, speedtree usually has quite a bit of tris but has LODs. But if I were to make my own with low tris I wouldn't make LODs (because I don't know how). I have no idea which would be better for performance. Thanks for your answer though

Both way have nearly the same performance -> both types are meshes. Just the wind node in the material is a little bit different. But I pesonally would stay around 6 tris when you create grass ->you can still get a good result. When you are around 6 tris, you dont need any LOD's. Otherwise create them in your 3d program (just delete some vertices without "destroying" the mesh
