Unreal Editor crashing a lot on Macbook Pro

Hi, I’m experiencing very frequent crashes on Macbook Pro under latest Yosemite OS and UE4 Editor.

I am on Yosemite 10.10.1 and UE4 version 4.6.1. I’ve been sending crash logs each time it crashes.

The crashes often happen if I minimize the editor and tab away from it to another app or to Safari where I’m watching YouTube UE4 tutorials. As soon as I try to unminimized, it crashes. Other times, it just crashes when I open up one of the tools like, then click back to the main editor window. In general, when things are working, the editor runs glassy for me on my Mac. Good performance and framerate. It just spontaneously crashes for some reason. Usually the crash logs say some things about it was trying to do some core UI rendering or whatever.

Also, lately, when I restart the editor, it says it cannot read the project file and the editor hangs on load. I then use the System Monitor to force quit the Editor again and restart and then the project loads. This is just a side affect of the crash I guess, with the init file getting out of whack on reload or something.

My system: Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro11,3 Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 6 MB Memory: 16 GB

I’m getting probably 1 crash every hour or less.

Thanks.

I just want to say that I’m experiencing the same issues.
Most of the crashes for me happen when I’m working on Blueprint (deleting, creating or disconnecting nodes) and when I ‘exit’ for play game session.
I always report the crashes when they happen.

My mac is an iMac with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5 and 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz.
Latest Yosemite , but upgraded from Maverick (not sure that could create problem or not)

Hi ,

In order to accurately trouble-shoot and your issue, please supply the following inforamtion:

If the crash reporter window is present when the crash occurs, select “Copy Callstack to the Clipboard,” paste that information in a document and add to this post. Be sure to hit: “Submit” on the Crash Reporter pop-up to send the Crash Report to Epic.

It is also important to provide the following logs:

The UE4.log (Located: ~/Library/Logs/Unreal Engine/Editor/)
The ProjectName.log (Located: ~/Library/Logs/Unreal Engine/ProjectNameEditor/)

Thanks

I did actually click submit on crashes mentioned above as separate reports directly through the bug reporter dialog. I was just mentioning the issue(s) I’m having on here to see if this seems to just be me or others are experiencing the issues. I’ve installed UE4 on 2 different Macs and had the same problems so I figures it’s a general issue with Mac.

I will add the UE4.log to this post once I reboot back to Mac again. I’m working out of Windows now and having a much better time.

Hi ,

Thanks for the response -if you could cut, paste, and post the callstack here that would help in syncing this post with what was anonymously sent to our crash reporter, which better helps isolate the cause of the crash and ultimately improve the engine.

-Thanks again

Hi ,

Since I haven’t heard back from you in a while, I’m marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you are still experiencing crashes on your MacBookPro, please respond to this message with additional information and we will look into this further.

Thanks

Ya my macbook can’t run ue4.8, so :stuck_out_tongue:
